Chapter 64 - Girlfriend and Boyfriend[]

It is around Christmas time. Chizuru gets annoyed when Shouta, who was following her on the way to school, brings up the "breakup" incident. She feels more comfortable talking to Ayane and Sawako about it, but cries when she does so. The next day at school, Ayane's attempted prank on Chizuru appears to cheer her up. Shouta and Sawako then study at the library together. Before they do so, Ayane reminds her not to screw up compared to the previous Christmas, now that she's in a relationship. During the study session, Sawako continues to feel uneasy about bringing up Christmas in front of Shouta. However, later at home, Sawako's father allows her daughter to attend a Christmas party. The next day, Sawako and Shouta confirm that they are free to spend Christmas together.

Chapter 65 - Is Something Bothering You?[]

A party on Christmas eve is announced for Class 2-D. Sawako confirms her attendance, but Shouta doesn't, not knowing that Sawako would be attending. Pin then suggests Ayane attend with Kento. Ayane reacts angrily to the suggestion, only to think about it for a while. She again rejects Kento's suggestion of spending Christmas with him and his fan club, saying that she will attend the class party with Sawako and Chizuru. Kento then deserts his fan club to join the class party as well. Ryu also announces his attendance, to Chizuru's shock. Later that night, Sawako worries about whether Shouta will participate, and has trouble deciding whether or not to ask. The next day, Sawako leads Shouta somewhere where no-one else can see them. She ends up forgetting what to ask Shouta.

Chapter 66 - Important[]

Shouta has a surprise encounter with Sawako's father, who confirms his daughter's attendance at the Christmas Eve party. Shouta is then invited to a tea break by Kento, who admits to liking Ayane despite her playing hard-to-get, and wants Shouta's help on a Christmas present that Ayane might like. Kento then hears how Ayane had been bruised by a previous boyfriend, and also listens to Shouta's worries over his relationship. When Sawako returns home, her father asks to spend Christmas as a family. Sawako realizes that Shouta miscommunicated, and is distancing himself.

Chapter 67 - Christmas Party[]

It's Christmas Eve. Sawako watches Shouta leave on his own again, just like the previous Christmas. Chizuru then freaks out over forgetting to buy a Christmas present. Ayane then hears of Kento's attendance at the upcoming party. After Kento leaves, Ayane wonders if Kento likes her, and considers a relationship by asking how Sawako fell in love with Shouta. Ayane hears some troubling words from Sawako, mostly regarding her insecurities over the relationship, and consoles Sawako as a result, finally admitting to Sawako that she never truly loved anyone. Sawako in turn cries over Ayane's situation, and Ayane's admittance of her envy of Sawako and Chizuru. Soon, the main cast arrives at the Christmas party.

Author's Note[]

"I've been on Twitter for two years now. (When I started, people around me were surprisedas was I!) When I'm at home working and check up on the people I'm following, I feel like I'm working with them, having a good time with them, or watching a morning television series with them. That's a weird feeling! Right now, it's winter where I am, but Honshu is enjoying a warm spring. When this volume comes out, perhaps Hokkaido will be warmer!"

Trivia[]

  • The back cover features Sawako with a Chinese peony[3] (Paeonia lactiflora). In the English publication, this design is on the book's spine.
